1.2  Camp Information Night – Tuesday June 12th

ALL cadets who have been selected for summer training are required to attend with a parent. Cadets will receive their joining instructions and additional information to prepare them for summer training. Again, this is mandatory for only cadets going to summer training.

 


2.0  TRAINING & OPERATIONS

2.1  Graduation Parade – Tuesday June 5th

This Tuesday will be the Graduation Parade and final Commanding Officer’s Parade, for the training year. Several awards, promotions, qualifications, and special presentations will be made during this parade, and it will serve as a practice for the Annual Ceremonial Review, the following Sunday. All parents are invited and strongly encouraged to attend. Cadets are to arrive at their regular timing, guests are asked to be seated for 7:15pm in the Armoury. The dress is FTU for cadets and CADPAT for military personnel.

Immediately following the parade, parents will be asked to take part in Support Committee elections, to decide who will form the executive group that assists the cadet corps with fundraising, logistical support, and recruitment. Learn more about the Support Committee here.

 

2.2  Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) – Sunday June 10th

2677’s ACR will take place during the weekend of 9-10 June 2018. This activity is mandatory for all cadets.

Timings:

Drop off – Saturday June 9th 1300hrs, Pembroke Armoury.
Pick up – Sunday June 10th, after ACR reception.

Meals:

Cadets will be provided meals from lunch June 9th till lunch June 10th.

Dress:

Cadets are to arrive in C8. Shorts or non-ripped jeans with running shoes (no sandals) is acceptable.  Cadets will need to bring their entire dress uniform (less tunic and tie) on a hanger, with boot polishing kit. Double check you have everything the night before.

Guests: Military is 3B, Civilian is business casual for the ACR parade.

  • Issued Olive Drab t-shirt and civilian jeans or shorts. No rips or holes.
  • Sleepwear
  • Sleeping bag and small pillow

  • Sunscreen

Note that the cadet corps only has one iron and ironing board. It is recommended some cadets bring an iron and ironing board to prepare their uniform.

Last year, we had the honour and privilege to hear the story of Swanee Van Dyken, a survivor of the Nazi Occupation during the second World War in the Netherlands. This week, Swanee peacefully passed away. The Commanding Officer and RSM, on behalf of the unit, wish to extend our condolences to Swanee’s family.

Everyone is required to have a name tag for their dress uniform. If you do not have one, purchase one at the unit kit shop for only $3, by April 17th so an order can be placed. The name tag is the same type used on the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Distinctive Environmental Uniforms (DEU).

2.2 Ottawa Citizenship Trip

As per the cadet training program, there is a strong element of citizenship within the cadet curriculum. To meet our citizenship training mandate, we are planning a citizenship trip to Ottawa that will include Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, and the War Museum. We will be ending the trip with a visit to Extreme Trampoline in Kanata. This will be a one day trip with travel, meals, and admission to the different locations all paid for by the unit.

Cadets who have signed up for the Ottawa trip next Sunday must (with their parent) complete the Xtreme Trampoline waiver. https://xtremetrampolinekanata.pfestore.com/waiver/

Note: Cadets who sign up for the trip, but do not attend will be billed $40.00.

2.0  TRAINING & OPERATIONS

 

2.1 Trivia Fundraiser – postponed till May 12th

The Trivia Fundraiser has been moved to May 12th due low ticket sales. If parents or friends of the corps would like to participate in a fun evening, please sign-up with Mrs Laura Demont.

 

2.2 Ottawa Citizenship Trip

As per the cadet training program, there is a strong element of citizenship within the cadet curriculum. To meet our citizenship training mandate, we are planning a citizenship trip to Ottawa that will include Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, and the War Museum. We will also be scheduling a fun activity before returning to Pembroke. This will be a one day trip with travel, meals, and admission to the different locations all paid for by the unit.

Note: Cadets who sign up for the trip, but do not attend will be billed $40.00.

2.3 Standard First-Aid Training Course

We are in the process of preparing for a first-aid course that was originally planned for December. We are still in the process of securing an instructor, but will announce final details once confirmed.

 

2.4  Specialty Teams

Marksmanship Team – Competition this Weekend – see calendar. REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR HEALTH CARD.

Pipes & Drums Band Practice – Is finished for the training year. Thank you to those cdts who participated!

 

2.5  Summer Course Selections

Summer course applications have been received and are being reviewed. Applications will be prioritized by the training cell and sent to the CO for recommendation. The CO reviews each application, then processes it through the Regional Headquarters. We are expecting cadets to be notified of their selection for camp in May – please be patient while waiting for selection. Questions about summer training can be sent to the Training Officer, through your Chain of Command.

 

2.6  Year-End Activity: 19-20 May 2018

We have a special year-end activity planned for this training year! We are confirming the final details, but we can confirm that we will be whitewater rafting in addition to other activities with 2898 Cadet Corps (Sainte-Marie, QC), who will be joining us for the weekend. Keep your weekend free as this is a weekend you will not want to miss. More details to follow.

 

2.7  Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR)

We have a special year-end activity planned for this training year!
